Licensed insurance agent, Arkansas and Minnesota. Independent, which means I shop several carriers instead of defending one price.
I'm Gerald Burns. I run City Insurance Plus out of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and I'm licensed in Arkansas and Minnesota.
I fell into insurance in 2018, when it was presented as an option for a steady paycheck. I started as a CSR, mostly doing quoting for the senior agents in the office.
I'd run my own laundromats before that, and done some work in construction. So I already knew what a business owner is looking at when a number comes back — and I ended up doing more and more on the commercial side.
I've only ever worked for an independent agency, and I liked how shopping around for the best premium helped people save.
I never considered going to work for a direct agency, and the reason was always the same question: how do you answer a client who is crying that their rates are too high?
Over time I learned the answer. I didn't like it.
That's why I do it this way. When your renewal comes back higher, I can take it somewhere else.
I served Minnesota for most of those years. We moved to Arkansas this year, for a reason we're still trying to figure out — but the more we're out walking the dog, the more I see it. Great nature, friendly people, and clean fresh air wherever you find yourself.
I kept my Minnesota licence, so I still write there too.

I'll watch any rugby that's live. Bonus points when it's the Springboks or the Golden Lions.
Most policies get bought once and renewed without anyone looking again. If it's been a while, tell me what you have and I'll tell you straight whether it still fits.
