You can buy cheaper auto liability than the limits we prefer to quote. Before you choose the state minimum, it's worth understanding what it leaves you exposed to.
Limits like 100/300/100 read as $100,000 bodily injury per person / $300,000 per accident / $100,000 property damage. State-minimum limits are often a fraction of that. They're legal to drive on, but thin if you cause a serious wreck.
One hospital stay blows past a low per-person limit fast. Total someone's newer vehicle and a minimum property-damage limit won't cover it. When the limit runs out, the injured party can come after you for the rest: your wages, your savings, your home.
It is a limit that protects your assets in a serious accident, well beyond what the law requires. The premium difference between the state minimum and 100/300/100 is often smaller than people expect. See our home & auto page.
Plenty of drivers carry the bare minimum, or nothing. Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage protects you when the other driver can't pay. We quote it alongside your liability.
One caution: buying the minimum to save a few dollars a month is a bet against your own future income. It's the wrong place to save.
We'll quote state minimum and 100/300/100 side by side and show you the numbers. Usually a small difference for a large jump in protection.
